Bulk (Free) SMS

The MIT SMS Gateway can deliver large volumes of free to consumer SMS messages to mobile users. MIT offer a number of connection methods enabling 3rd party applications and services to connect to the gateway. MIT can also manage these services for customers through the in-house interactive campaign management tool MIDAS.

Short Codes

For the UK and Ireland, country specific operator short codes are memorable five digit numbers that allow mobile users to communicate with your business. Users send an SMS into your designated short code and a free bulk SMS or mobile terminated (MT) premium billing SMS can be returned to the user. MIT offer cross network short codes over a variety of different price points up to £10. Short codes are commonly used for value added services such as micropayments for products, voting, content delivery and purchasing mobile content.

Short codes can be shared or dedicated and operate using keywords. A shared short code involves a number of different companies assigned to the five digit number with traffic being directed by a keyword related to your company or service. A dedicated short code is a five digit number wholly owned by your company. This option is best for companies operating a number of different services and allows multiple keywords related to your company.

Premium Billed SMS

Premium SMS is the most popular and widely used mobile billing solution in the UK and Ireland. Premium SMS enables micropayments to and from mobile users for price points ranging from 0p to £10. Due to the Gateway having direct connections into the MNO’s MIT can provide cross network billing on all the mobile networks allowing your company to generate immediate revenue from your customers. MIT provides Mobile Originated (MO) and Mobile Terminated (MT) billing services over shared and dedicated premium rate short codes with some of the most competitive pay outs in the mobile industry.

MIT have fast and efficient payment terms providing outpayments based upon revenues generated from services through the MNOs. Similarly to bulk SMS the gateway is compatible with 3rd party applications and services or MIT can provide the in-house, interactive campaign management tool, MIDAS, to help you run your campaigns and services.

Virtual Numbers

As well as short codes MIT can provide you with virtual 11 digit long numbers in order for your customers, clients or employees to communicate with you. Starting with 07 and charged at standard SMS rates to mobile users these numbers allow an interactive service to be set up via a traditional 07 mobile number. Virtual numbers have a number of benefits over short codes in that they are cheaper to rent and are also not country specific and therefore operate internationally.

Gateway Technology

MIT offers a number of different API connections for you to connect your service to the SMS Gateway. Our http connection is the most popular with clients but we can also offer SMPP, UCP and C7 protocols. The SMS Gateway can support a number of different SMS messaging types such as standard 160 character messages, concatenated messages, WAP push, EMS and Nokia smart messages.

One of the key features the MIT service offers is dedicated routing and queuing to ensure delivery of your message. The gateway operates a staggered retry policy to avoid undelivered messages due to down time from 3rd party applications or Operator Networks. This feature also guarantees Pay As You Go users can only buy content or participate in a service if they have enough credit. The gateway also backs this up with real time delivery notifications.

The SMS Gateway also includes a solution to avoid mobile number portability delivery issues by performing a real time mobile number look up to confirm which MNO the mobile number is registered on.

SS7

SS7 is a network technology that allows you to cleanse a mobile subscription database, as well as identify users who have ported networks. MIT offers very competitive rates for large data sets to be validated in a matter of hours. By running regular SS7 look ups on your data, you can continue to bill consumers who have ported networks and also save money on sending free messages that will inevitably fail if the consumer has terminated their contract.
